Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 or Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is directed by Mizushima Seiji, written by Kuroda Yosuke, and features character designs by Koga Yun. This is the first Gundam series to be animated in high definition, and the first to be set in the Anno Domini era.

The year is 2307 A.D. Fossil fuels have been exhausted, and the world relies on the solar power generators orbiting Earth, and supported by three orbital elevators. Each elevator is controlled by one of the three major powers: The Union of Solar Energy and Free Nations, the Human Reform League, and the Advanced European Nation. Because the energy from the solar power generators only benefits the three major powers and their allies, there is constant warfare for fuel and energy.

The chaos led to the formation of a private military organization called Celestial Being, dedicated to eradicate all warfare through the power of the Gundams. Setsuna F. Seiei, Lockon Stratos, Allelujah Haptism, and Tieria Erde are the four Gundam Meisters piloting the Gundams, and intervening in warfare all across the globe.
